Product Description Retaining all the beloved qualities of Huston Smith's classic The Religions of Man and the current fully revised and updated The World's Religions, this stunning pictorial presentation refines the text to its wonderful essentials. In detailed, absorbing, richly illustrated, and highly readable chapters on Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Islam, Judaism, Christianity and primal religions, we find refreshing and fascinating presentations of both the differences and the similarities among the worldwide religious traditions. The approach is at once classic and contemporary, retaining all the empathy, eloquence and erudition that millions of readers love about the earlier editions, while being edited and designed for a contemporary general readership. This delightful marriage of winsome text and remarkable pictures vividly brings to life the scope and vision of Huston Smith's expertise and insight.

Required reading for anyone interested in different religions. January 3, 2009 This review is for both The World's Religions and Illustrated World Religions. I will do as Lao Tzu and make this short and to the point. I have used this book in Sunday school, for the world history classes I teach, as reference to a book I am writing, and for general interest(s). I have recommended it to everyone who asks me questions about religion. One reason they ask me is because I have read this book.
Original edition text cut in half October 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a nice book, worth a read. My only misgiving is that when I ordered it I expected the 1989 complete edition along with illustrations. Half of the text was cut, however, to make space for the illustrations it explains.
I feel they should explain that up front in the ad.

The Illus. World's Religions Guide to Our Wisdom Tradition July 18, 2008 Huston Smith is the benchmark authority in the field of comparative religions. This illustrated edition of his classic work appropriately adds understanding and appreciation for the world's religions.
Reasonable June 26, 2008 I used this book for an independent study course on world religions. It was fairly user friendly and got me through ok, considering I only received a small amount of instructor time. Not something I would have selected on my own, but since I have it, I will keep it. Actually, if you were reading it for yourself and not fretting over an exam, it would be fairly interesting.
random illustrations January 8, 2008 While this book has many many illustrations they are not tied in to the text in any meaningful way. It's as if they are just there for the sake of being there...
