Since enrolling, I have learned a lot about Hunter College. Though my college experience is only limited to my school, I have gained an idea of what sets it apart from other institutions by hearing stories from friends at colleges off in the middle of nowhere or other big cities. By writing the guide, I have also realized a lot about it. At first, working on the guide was a challenge. The nightlife section seemed impossible because Hunter s campus is literally the city; it is not limited to 68th Street. Several sections just didn t make sense to me. Parking? Who wants to park in the city? It has been through these frustrations that I have realized how different Hunter is from a lot of other schools. It is not contained within its own self-sufficient world, it isn t afforded the resources and funding that private universities are, and its students have different concerns. Rather than wondering which party or parties they re going to attend on Thursday, they re wondering how they re going to pay for their books this semester. To be fair, these are concerns of many students, not just at Hunter. What I have realized, though, is that there are different types of students at Hunter. There are those on the average four-year plan, those looking to graduate earlier, and those who will take a little bit longer. There are students on exchange from within the United States, or from outside the country. There are those that transfer after one or two years, and there are those who transfer to the school with one or two schools already on their transcript. There are students that attend part time and work full time, or work full time and go to school full time. There are married students, students with children, students with grandchildren. Whoever they are, Hunter gives them what they re looking for. Meredith Deliso, Author
