Learning the easy way! March 16, 1999 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
Who gets excited about a book for graduation? I did! This book has all kinds of tips--from roomates, fighting the freshman "10", to the $5 date. I love the stories in the margins. I think I know some of those people. Thanks to this book, I will Survive!
A great guide for starting your college years March 15, 1999 27 out of 27 found this review helpful
I was looking for a book for my nephew to use when he went away to college. This book caught my eye because it had all of the useful topics I could think of in the index. Then I saw on the front cover that the New York Times had called the book "Outstanding." That caught my eye. I looked at the other books on the same topic and chose this one for its usefulness and penetrating analyses of any possible problems a college student could have from personal safety to surviving his classes. I think this book is a great find, especially for college freshmen. My nephew says he has gotten lots of good advice from the book.
An excellent, funny and readable guide to college. March 11, 1999 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I bought my first copy of this book based upon a review in the New York Times before starting college, and used it as my bible. It is funny, well laid-out, and practical without being preachy. I continue to buy copies for friends and family as gifts: all of the other books I have seen sound like they were written by guidance counselors or something. This is like student to student.
Almost entirely useless January 23, 1999 7 out of 12 found this review helpful
I read this book immediately before starting my freshman year of college. Doing so did me hardly any good. The writing left a lot to be desired and the advice it gave was of minimal applicability. I certainly would not reccommend this book to anyone.
